Quidditch-Orienteering

Quidditch-O combines orienteering, stealth and strategy into a sophisticated “capture the flag” game.

Read the synopsis below. If we get enough interested people we will stage a game.  Lori Huberman developed these rules, and her club in Cambridge MA is going to try it for the first time on August 9.

Quidditch-O, a Synopsis

The goal of the game is to collect as many streamers and bring them to the Start/Finish area within the time limit. The basic set-up is a Score-O with multiple streamers at each control. There will be two teams, each with some combination of Chasers, Beaters, Keepers, and a Snitch. A protected Start/Finish area will have a box for each team to put their controls.

  • The Chasers – The goal of the Chasers is to collect streamers from the controls and catch other Chasers to take half their streamers without getting caught. (You can only catch another Chaser when you aren’t carrying streamers and they are).
  • The Keepers – The Keepers guard controls by hiding and then catching an unsuspecting Chaser at the control to get half the Chaser’s streamers.
  • The Snitch – The goal of the Snitch is to not get caught by the other team while completing several short orienteering courses.
  • The Beaters – (After a Maurader’s Map is available) The goal of the Beaters will be to tag Chasers carrying controls because when they do, they get half the controls the Chaser is carrying.

The complete set of rules are here, and we can modify them as we get some experiance with the game.  Please leave your comments below, and be sure to leave a comment if you would like to play the game.
