2-Hour or 4-Hour Score-O, Umstead North, 15 December

Filed under: Latest News by David Waller on December 1st, 2019

On Sunday December 15, BOK will host its 6th annual Score-O in Umstead park. A “Score-O” involves a course with no predetermined route, in which competitors decide which controls they want to visit, and in which order. This event will have 2-, and 4-hour options. It is open to any orienteers who have successfully completed an advanced (orange, brown, green, red, or blue) course. Registration has closed for this event.  If you have to come and haven’t registered, you will need to write Dave a groveling email.

This is a mass-start event, with both races beginning at 10:00 AM from the multi-use trail parking lot at Umstead State Park (GPS coordinates = 35.867799, -78.752534 ). Access to this parking lot is from the north side of the park, from the US-70 (Glenwood) entrance. There will be a mandatory pre-race briefing at 9:50. Maps will be ready for distribution at 9:00 to provide competitors time for route planning. The map will be printed on multiple pages, each at a scale of 1:10000. The 4-hour course is expected to be clearable this year.
