Filed under: Uncategorized by Vladimir Stemkovski on November 25th, 2017

We will have an OPEN event at Raven Rock State Park on Sunday December 3, 2017.
Everyone is welcome, and we will have a beginners class at 12:30.

The event starts at noon and everybody must finish by 3 PM. We will have all regular courses from beginner to advanced, White through Red.
White 2.2km 9 controls
Yellow 2.7km 7 controls
Orange 3.5km 11 controls
Brown 3.7km 8 controls
Green 5.4km 11 controls
Red 6.7km 13 controls

Brown, Green and Red courses will feature a couple of additional (optional) controls. Each optional control (if found) will result in 10 mins reduction in the overall time.

The park is a lovely park, but there are some steep slopes and quite a bit of mountain laurel to slow you down off trail. There are also a couple of new un-mapped trails (in the south east part of the map).

If you are bringing a group of 5 or more people please preregister for this event.

As always, help with control pick-up would be greatly appreciated.

Directions

Raven Rock is near Lillington, about 40 miles S of Raleigh. We will be using the part of Raven Rock that is South of the Cape Fear River. If you are using a GPS to get to the park, use the address: 3009 Raven Rock Road, Lillington, NC, 27546 or use GPS coordinates: 35.459259, -78.912911. Note that Moccasin Branch Rd is unpaved and has a stream crossing it with a ford rather than a bridge. Do not take this at speed! If the park is full (likely), you may be directed to parking on Moccassin Branch Rd a short distance from the park entrance. We will start at the picnic shelter which is adjacent to the first parking area on your right after you enter the park.
