Open and ARDF Events at Carolina North Forest – Jan 23 and Jan 24, 2021
All of the spaces for this event have been filled, and so registration is now closed.
You are welcome to come to our OPEN orienteering and ARDF events at Carolina North Forest on Saturday, Jan 23 or orienteering only on Sunday, Jan 24. Start and finish from the parking lot at Orange Country Health Department (GPS = 35.94851, -79.06536). We will offer Yellow, Orange, Brown, Green and Red courses on Saturday & Sunday, as well as 80m ARDF course on Saturday only. (Note: there will be no beginner class or White – beginner course)
The courses will close at 3.30 pm on Saturday and at 3.00 pm on Sunday – make sure to finish before these times.
Note, that the park MAY ask us to postpone the event, if there is a lot of rain during a few days before the event.
Note, that there are NO RESTROOMS at the start/finish. Please, plan your visit accordingly.
The following procedures that we will implement to help with social distancing.
1. Everybody must pre-register and pay online by Wednesday, Jan 20. No walk-ins will be allowed.
2. When you register, you must select a specific 30-mins start window. There are limits for each window. When the limits are reached the registration will be closed. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we received permission for a total of 25 participant for each of the two days, thus the limits are rather small. Register early – we anticipate that there won’t be enough slots for everybody.
3. There will be no beginner course (White), no beginner class, no loaner compasses, no plastic map bags (i.e., bring your own). We will, however, provide rental finger sticks and rental ARDF receivers (if you request one during the online registration).
4. Maps and rental finger sticks will be laid out on a table for your to pick up.
5. Masks will be required in the start/finish and maps pickup areas. No Mask – No Map. Finish and Start controls will be placed at a distance from the download box, so you will have a chance to put on your mask after punching the finish control and before approaching the tables. In order to be able to do it, you should probably take your mask with you on the course (in your pocket or a bag)
ARDF specific notes:
An 80m ARDF course will be available to those wanting to do radio orienteering. The ARDF course will be operating only on Saturday, Jan 23. Foxes will operate on 3.54 MHz and the homing beacon on 3.6 MHz. ARDF will share the orienteering Start and Finish locations. The courses will be shorter than regulation courses, with the longest course (all five foxes) having an effective length of less than 7km. The exclusion area around the Start/Finish will be 400m.
If you want to do both ARDF and orienteering on Saturday, register for the Orienteering course and add that you will be doing ARDF in the comments.
Please, be considerate of other participants, wear masks at the start/finish and maps pickup, and practice social distancing. Looking forward to seeing you all!
Vladimir, Tatyana, and Charles
Do you know the number of controls and total distance for the Orange, Brown and Green courses?
Thanks,
Nils
May I change out 1 of my yellow maps for a brown map. Also would you like a list of si sticks # to match with my cadets name. If so what email address should I send it to?
