The final day of the championships is – as usual – the 80m classic event. The location was similar to that of the 2m event, just North of the campground. The weather was a bit colder than in the previous days, but much drier. The forest was no different though. Many thanks for Charles Scharlau […]

Saturday’s event was the 2m classic. Only 5 transmitters, much fewer than the previous days. Everything went fine, we didn’t have any technical issues today. We were also grateful for the trails on the course today: the top finishers all made good use of them. The performance of the day is definitely Eduard Nasybulin’s 82 […]

On Friday we continued with fox orienteering under drier conditions. The weather was close to perfect for orienteering and the forest was dry enough. There was ample opportunity […]

We will have a 2m ARDF practice at Umstead West starting promptly at 10am. After a quick lesson on how to set up a transmitter, five people will each get a region on the map in which to set a 2m transmitter. The plan is to set the controls on hillsides and near creeks so […]

Everything went smoothly. We had the full 750m exclusion zone around the start. Not usual for a local event, but good practice for the Champs. (Coming up April 5-10 in Quantico VA.) We used our new rental 2m Receivers again. The transmitter closest to the finish was tantalizingly close to the route to what should […]

Learn Radio Orienteering (ARDF) like the pros learned it. Nadia Scharlau got her start in ARDF at age 13 and went on to become a world champion, and taught classes to beginners who went on to become world champions themselves. She still uses the same no-frustration step-by-step approach by which she learned the sport 40+ […]
