Filed under: Latest News by David Waller on July 15th, 2017

On Sunday, August 13, we will have two park/forest sprint courses, using a new map of Wilson park (and adjoining greenspace) in Carrboro.  This event is open to BOK members who have completed an advanced course (orange, brown, green, red, or blue), to advanced members of other orienteering clubs (for $5), and to active members of the US military (for $5).  In an attempt to avoid the afternoon heat, our start window will be between 10:00 AM and noon, with control pickup starting around 12:30.  Wilson park is located at 101 Williams St., Carrboro, NC (GPS coordinates = 35.919650, -79.075243; map here.)  Register here before 5:00 PM on Friday, August 11 to ensure getting a map.  When you register, choose ‘red course’ if you only want to run one course, and choose ‘blue course’ if you want to run both.

Course information:

Course 1:  2.9km, 14 controls

Course 2:  2.9km, 14 controls

What to wear?  Each course will have appx. 150m through light or medium green vegetation.  Approximately 10-15m of this vegetation has some thorns/greenbrier.  The rest is not noxious, and much of it can be avoided by route choice.  The rest of the courses will be in open runnable woods or open fields.
