On Sunday March 9th, BOK is hosting an Advanced orienteering event at Umstead Park West. The entrance is on Old Reedy Creek Rd. This event is open to participants with some experience.

Registration will at 5PM. Friday March 7. Please don’t count on registration being open much beyond the deadline as we have a lot to do on Saturday.

This is the first time we have set an Orange course on this part of the map and it will be technically harder than most Orange courses, although somewhat shorter. There are no paths (more so it is more like a short Brown). The main linear features will be streams and re-entrants. A description of what level of difficulty to expect can be found on our newcomer’s page

If lost, head North-west until you hit the gravel road and then turn South.

Start window: 11:00am – 1:00pm.

The courses will close at 2:30pm.

The available courses are:

Orange (2.8km)
Brown (3.5km)
Green (5.4km)
Red (6.8km)

Location: 2337-2307 Old Reedy Creek Rd, Cary, NC 27513
GPS: 35.844772, -78.777725
Park on the shoulder on the east side of the road. Do not park at the gate or in front of the house at the gate on Old Reedy Creek Rd. This is a private residence.

There are no bathrooms or water at this location. The nearest bathroom is by the Old Reedy Creek Road Trailhead, 0.5 miles away. This is also the best place to park any buses as turning space near the registration point is limited.

Help with control pickup is always greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you there,

Ian Shields & Paul Emmerson
