Because of the health risks associated with large gatherings of people, we are taking the following precautions for our Apr 5 event at Thornburg Farm in Birkhead Wilderness.  

Registration for this event is now closed.

1.  We will not be renting fingersticks.  All competitors must either bring their own fingerstick or be comfortable participating in the event without one.

2.  There will be no in-person registration, and thus no registration cards to fill out at the event.  Everyone competing must be pre-registered online.

3.  Maps will be emailed to participants 2 days prior to the event. Participants will be responsible for printing their maps at home. No maps will be distributed at the event. We will also not supply plastic map covers.  If you need one, you will need to bring your own. 

4. We will not be printing splits at the finish/download. The results with splits will be posted online 1 day after the event.  

5. All courses will have remote start and finish.  

Advanced orienteers are welcome to our event at Thornburg Farm in Birkhead Wilderness. Check-in at the farm house (while keeping distance from the event directors) and proceed to the remote start.

Location: 

From US 220 in Asheboro  
– take NC 49 south (you’ll actually be heading west) for 5.5 miles.
– Turn right on Science Hill Rd. (SR 1163) and go 4/10 of a mile.
– Then turn left (south) on Lassiter Mill Rd. (SR 1107)
– The Thornburg Farm entrance is on your left after about 3 miles on Lassiter Mill Rd.)

Start any time between 10.00 AM and 1:00 PM. Please, come at a “random time” to avoid crowding the check-in area. Maintain appropriate distance from other participants.

Make sure that you report back to the farm house by 3:00, because we will begin clearing the courses at that time.

All courses will have a remote start and a remote finish.  You must return to the check-in area after completing your course.
