Falls Lake Advanced June 14
Our next event is at Falls Lake on June 14.
This is an advanced event for club members who are ready to do orange level courses or above.
Update Wednesday2015-06-10 I finally have what looks like a decent course design for a Farsta relay. Total length is about 3.8km, with each relay part approximately half that. I managed to avoid the nasty vegetation and much of the course will be fairly open. Nevertheless, be prepared for ticks. I got a couple on Saturday and there is long grass between the road and the start. When registering, please indicate whether you are participating in the Farsta relay or not, so I have enough maps of each type. See y’all Sunday.
The main event will be a Farsta relay. This is a one-man relay where each participant runs two relay loops. The course is made up of intersecting loops. The number of shared controls determines the possible number of relay legs. For example, two loops with four shared controls gives 16 possible relay loops. Everyone runs the same total set of course segments eventually, but following might be very risky as two people may set off in different directions at a shared control. You can read more about the format at
<href=”http://www.ocin.org/flying_pig/farsta_example.html”>Farsta example.
I will also have another course of 3.5km or so for anyone not wishing to do the relay.
There will be orientation to the event format and course assignment at noon and a mass start at 12:15. If you can’t make the mass start, I’ll figure out how to start you individually. Follow bright pink streamers/signs from the usual entrance on Old Weaver Trail to the start.
As usual for advanced events, pre-registration is required by Friday noon.
