Open Event in North Umstead – March 4, 2018

Filed under: Latest News by Vladimir Stemkovski on February 26th, 2018

We will have an OPEN event at Umstead Park (North) on Sunday March 4, 2018.
Everyone is welcome, and we will have a beginners class at 12:30. Enter the park through the Glenwood Avenue entrance, follow the signs to the furthest parking lot and from there to the big shelter.
The event starts at noon and everybody must finish by 3 PM.

We will have all regular courses from beginner through expert, White through Red.

In addition there will be a ARDF FoxOring Radio Orienteering course.  This is where you navigate to near the circle on the map and then use your 80 meter band receiver to locate the control which is around 40 meters from the center of the marked circle.  Everyone is welcome to try it and we will have instruction.

The Red course will require two wet crossings of Sycamore Creek. The water level should be anywhere between 0.5 – 3 feet (depending on amount of rain in preceding days). Last weekend it was about 0.5 feet (and plenty of trees laying across).

If you are bringing a group of 5 or more people please pre-register for this event.

Help with control pick-up would be appreciated.

Vladimir and Tatyana
