With a Little Help From Your Friends

Filed under: Latest News by Joseph on November 18th, 2010
Folks,

As our Backwoods Orienteering Klub grew over the years, the number of klub members and events we hold on regular basis increased, yet the number of volunteers is at the all time low now. I am talking not only about helping with control pickups or help with the registration, but also designing and setting up courses and managing the whole events.

I understand that we all have lives and families, we have competing interests and jobs. But we ALL do!

Anticipating another argument: “I would like to help, but I don’t know how to… (set up controls, design courses, teach the class, register runners, etc, etc)” — baby steps! No one expects a novice to have a full plate of responsibilities without any help.   Just let us know you want to help, and we will find a suitable job for you…Hopefully, you will get some experience and be encouraged to graduate to the next level of responsibilities or just stay an active helper for the other directors.

This next plea is specifically for the advanced competitors: if you run Brown or above, stayed with our Klub for years and never hosted or helped with an event, please consider doing so.

I hope that all the blanks in the column “Director” in our schedule http://backwoodsok.org/schedule will be filled before we start canceling the events.

Thanks for your consideration,
