a National Park in Quantico Virginia, USA
April 6-10, 2022

  • Here is where you can see who is registered
  • Location: Prince William Forest Park, Turkey Run Ridge Campground site “C”
  • Park entrance fees not included with registration
    • National Park Pass is accepted for entry
    • Vehicle $20 Valid seven consecutive days
    • Motorcycle $15 Valid seven consecutive days
    • Individual (walk-in and bike-in) $10 Valid seven consecutive days
    • Annual Pass for Prince William Forest Park $35 Valid one year from month of purchase
  • All practices, meetings and races will start and download at the Turkey Run Ridge Campground site “C” in Prince William Forest Park except the sprint
  • The Sprint will start near the Visitor Center
    • GPS: 38.581644, -77.373157
    • The park is open from sunrise, 6:46 am, to sunset, 7:37 pm
      • The visitor center is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
    • Competitors are invited to camp in our group camp “C” without additional cost.
      • Only tent camping is permitted
      • Flush toilets and sinks
      • No Showers

  • Wednesday, April 6: Morning & Afternoon Practices
    • Practice Map
    • 10:00 am – 12:00 pm Morning Practice
      • The morning practice is an actual sprint with 5n and 5f as well as a beacon and spectator controls. We can practice with the 12 second sprint format and run in the forest on the map. The transmitters will be on the same frequencies as the championship competition, but with but transmit at 50Mw instead of 1w.
    • 1:00 – 4:00 pm Afternoon Practice
      • A 1.5k 2m Classic course with 3 transmitters
        • 144.50 MHz 60/120 timing (60 seconds on / 120 seconds off)
        • Using OK2BWN transmitters at 1w
        • The 2m championship classic will use Arducon 2m transmitters at 1w
      • A 1.5k 80m Classic course with 2 transmitters
        • 3.57 MHz 60/120 timing
        • using OK2BWN transmitters at 1w
        • keying at sprint fast speed (70)
        • Same frequency, power, and transmitter as champion fast sprint with 1 minute timing instead of 12 second timing.
      • 80m Beacon 3.60 MHz continuous
        • using OK2BWN transmitter at 1w 
        • Same frequency and transmitter as the classic race beacon except at 1w instead of 3w
        • Same frequency, power, and transmitter as champion sprint beacon
      • 80m Spectator 3.55 MHz continuous
        • using OK2BWN transmitter at 1w
        • Same frequency, power, and transmitter as champion sprint Spectator
      • 240m sprint course with 2 transmitters
        • 3.52 MHz 12/12 timing
        • Using 2 FlexFox transmitters
        • Regular keying speed (9 PARIS)
          • Signal will be “M” followed by “dits” not “MO
          • This is what we will use for the regular speed sprint foxes on the champion race.  
            • The fast keying sprint foxes (15 PARIS) will use the normal MO+dits.
        • Same frequency, power, timing and transmitter as champion sprint race

    • 1:00 pm (or 1 hrs following the start of the Equipment check)

    • Time limit: 150 minutes
    • 2:00 pm (or immediately following the FoxOring)

    • 4:00 pm (or 1 hrs following the start of the Equipment check)

  • FoxOring Maps will only have your assigned foxes on the map.
  • You will receive your map at the start. After the start there will be a table where you can prepare your map.
  • Foxes will be on 3 different frequencies so be sure to check the above table to see which frequencies the foxes are on.
  • Foxes 6 & 6F will be identical to 5 & 5F. They will all be transmitting “MO5”

Emergency & Safety Information

  • The closest Urgent Care center:
    • Woodbridge Advanced Urgent Care. Open 24/7
    • 14139 Potomac Mills Rd, Woodbridge, VA 22192
    • 703-490-8400
  • Covid Policies:
    • Vaccination required
    • Masks worn when approaching volunteers on station.
    • Testing and reporting the result to us is recommended.
  • Safety Information:
    • Everyone must carry a whistle with them on the course.
    • You are encouraged to carry a cell phone with you on the course.
      • Using the cell phone will disqualify you from the event except when reporting an emergency, contacting the organizer, or after you are overtime.
    • There are no unusual dangers in Prince William Forest. You should use insect repellent on your clothes to repel ticks, and there could also be mosquitoes. Expect rocky, thorny and marshy areas. There are venomous snakes, but they are not commonly seen.
    • There will not be drinking water on the course. If the temperature is predicted to be 95F or over during the day, you will be required to bring water with you.
      • We will have drinking water at the campground for you to fill up your container.
      • Disposable water bottles are not permitted on the course and discouraged throughout the event.

  • Exceptions to the USA ARDF Rules
    • S28 The Slow sprint signal will be “M” followed by the “dits” representing the control number
    • R2.2 Pin punches will not be used for backup. Witness testimony, Photographs of the control or a GPS track will be accepted as evidence.
    • We will not embargo receivers 
    • We encourage carrying cell phones for safety
      • Phones may only be used
        • for an emergency
        • to call the organizers
        • to photograph a control.
    • 26.8 If a competitor needs to return to the start to solve a problem, only if If the competitor returns within the first minute or the return is due to the fault of the organizer, may the competitor can be given a new start time.
    • Competitors found cheating will be disqualified from all events.
  • Registration & fee for competitors.

  • $150 all race package or $50/ race
    • Your first T-shirt is $10. Additional shirts are $18 (our cost)

  4. Hi,

    If I am camping and need to take a shower, can I drive around the perimeter to the Oak Ridge campground and take a shower? Its in the west edge of the embargoed area shaded on the map, but it doesn’t look like its near any of the hunt areas on the notes and procedure maps.
