2022 ARDF Championships — Fox-o results
On Friday we continued with fox orienteering under drier conditions. The weather was close to perfect for orienteering and the forest was dry enough. The new format (where foxes are spread over three different frequencies and two modes) is in line with international competitions. Most people adapted to it fairly quickly. There was ample opportunity to tune our receivers before the event.
We had one unfortunate technical issue: transmitter #1 wasn’t working. This affected runners in a few categories, mostly M-50 and M-60. (Some people found the transmitter despite the fact that it wasn’t working! Obviously, we couldn’t give an extra point for that, but I’d like to point out that Robert Haddow was able to get to 1 in just 5:14! That would have been a great time even with the transmitter working.)
Fortunately, most of the runners took the same controls before and after the faulty one, so the race director decided to scratch those two legs (6F – 1 – 6 or backwards) and subtract the sum of the times from each competitor’s time. As if you are transported instantly between 6 and 6F with no time passed. In the case of Alex Myachin (who took a slightly different order) we applied the largest time compensation of the others.
In M-60 Mike Minium cleared the course, getting not only the non-working control, but also another farther one, which the other competitors in that category decided not to pursue. This made Mike a clear winner in that group. The other three M-60 competitors were adjusted the same way as the M-50 group: their time between 6 and 6F was subtracted from their total time.
