SignalSlinger Transmitter Kit

Product Details

We are taking orders now:

SignalSlinger is a 5-Watt Radio Orienteering transmitter for the 80m band. Appropriate for Classic, Sprint, and FoxOring. It can be set out days in advance and can transmit on a multi-day schedule.

Detailed user and assembly instructions are in the SignalSlinger User Manual.

This kit includes all the parts listed in the Assembly Manual section of the User Manual, including the internal battery. The only additional things you will need to start using your SignalSlinger are:

  • External 12v battery, one for each 'Slinger. For SignalSlinger to transmit, it must be connected to an external power source. A 12V Li-Ion battery pack is ideal. (Not included.)
  • Antenna: It just so happens that there is a tunable antenna design for 'Slinger, the SignalStreamer 80m transmit antenna kit. (Available as a kit soon.)
  • Configuration cable: one is sufficient for configuring all your 'Slingers (Not included, but available in our store) It is important that you order a USB Configuration Cable because you cannot configure your 'Slingers without one. You only need one to configure all your 'Slingers using either the free, open source, SerialSlinger software application, or a terminal emulator program.

The internal battery keeps SignalSlinger's clock running for days without an external power source, so it can start transmitting at the preset time. An attached external battery, or configuration cable, will automatically charge the internal battery. Without the internal battery, a momentary disconnect from the external battery would cause the internal clock to lose the current time, preventing the transmitter from turning on at the preset time.

The SignalStreamer antenna kit (not included but available soon in our store) is 'Slinger's perfect match (no pun). You tune the signal by turning a variable inductor until a set of LEDs reaches maximum brightness. All the details are in the SignalStreamer User Manual.

To configure 'Slinger, you connect the configuration cable (not included, but available in our store) between it and the USB port of a computer or smartphone. You only need one configuration cable to program all of your SignalSlingers. SerialSlinger is an open source app that programs and updates SignalSlinger using a configuration cable. It will download and install the latest updates, and will clone the appropriate settings into a set of SignalSlingers.

A null modem cable (not included) can be used to transfer event details from one 'Slinger to another without a computer or smartphone.
