We enjoyed near perfect weather and a brand new map of the New Hope Overlook portion of Jordan Lake. Many were surprised by how steep and rugged the terrain was, and the three expert-level courses did not take it easy on runners.
Several people asked me how much further south this new map extends. The answer is that our courses covered the bulk of what has been mapped; however, there is a large area to the south (down to the dam) and a small area to the north (to the campsites) that has been mapped. This image shows an overview of the map, and the magenta rectangle is the approximate extent of Saturday’s courses.
We are grateful to the manangement of Jordan Lake for changing their minds about allowing us to orienteer in this great venue. Many thanks to Ben Hart, who helped set many of the controls, and to Matt Kirk, Tatyana Stemkovski, Debra and Jeff Rezeli, and Kevin Frankowski for help with control pickup. Results follow.
