From January 17-24, BOK is providing an advanced Foxoring course for experienced radio orienteers. The course will be open daily from 8 AM to 4 PM. Please register only if you have completed an advanced (brown or higher) orienteering course and are familiar with operating an 80m radio receiver. Orienteers who have completed Nadia’s beginner courses are well qualified.

Foxoring is one of four event formats offered at championship Radio Orienteering competitions. It is the format most similar to traditional orienteering. Your map will indicate the approximate locations of the transmitters (“foxes”). Like a score-o, you must determine the optimum order to navigate to each one using a map and compass. The transmitters emit very weak signals, so only when you arrive close to each location shown on your map will you hear the transmitter on your receiver. Once you can hear the transmitter, you must locate its precise location by radio. Once you arrive at the fox, you will find the SI box to punch in using your finger stick. Foxoring does not use flags, so don’t expect to see any on the course! The transmitters will generally be located within about 50m of the feature indicated by the control circle on the map, but not at that feature.

This will be a “self-check-in” event. After registering, you will receive a PDF file of the course map. You will need to print the map to take with you on the course. There will be no rental receivers available on-site, so if you rent a receiver, you will need to make arrangements to pick it up and return it after your run.

All the essential information (courses, frequencies, contact phone, etc.) will be printed on your map. That information is also provided during online registration. You must register to participate.
