After weeklong forecasts of rain, we had a beautiful day out at the Birkhead Wilderness. This event was a little different from usual. First, there was a ‘sprint’ on the 1:4,000 scale map of the Birkhead Rock Garden. Then the competitors turned their map over to a 1:10,000 scale map with much longer legs to finish the courses. The reason that sprint is in quotes is because the area grew up like crazy over the past two weeks and this made running much slower than expected.
We only allowed a few people to start at each hour to keep contact way down. This worked very well. The courses turned out to be quite challenging. A few people ran out of time.
The results show the first part, the sprint, as a separate run. Then the second results show the whole run.
There were 18 starts.
