Results – Sprints at Dix Sunday March 23
I will start the comments with the usual: We had fantastic weather. But then I diverge because the preparations were particularly unusual. To start things off, we had the wrong map – we had an orienteering map instead of a Marauder Map. We needed real time map updates. The Dreamville Festival was closing most of the park on Monday so Sunday should be just fine, right? Wrong.
They started putting up 8 MILES of fencing on Wednesday. This is to hold 40,000 people (and there are waiting lists if you want to buy a ticket). That is in addition to the buildings that have been fenced off and possibly turned into open land or very large debris piles.
To give you an idea of the pace of changes Saturday after sundown we had to add 2 buildings to the map and move a control next to one of them. No, that doesn’t tell the story. Ian started the Radio course late and by the time he got to 2F it was fenced out of bounds. In an area we were told wouldn’t be fenced until Monday, they added about 100m of fence around 2F. To add insult to injury I had to argue with security to get my equipment out.
But except for Ian it went smoothly for everyone else. Although you may not believe this, we were so on time we started the first people before 11. The SE sprint was among the buildings and the NW was out in the moving fence areas.

Everyone is welcome at this event. There will be two orienteering sprints with Long and short versions as well as a full Radio-O sprint.
Also an Explorer course that is open to everyone, and particularly good for beginners, where you take whatever controls you want in any order and only need to be back by course closing time.
