Advanced event at Umstead West: 15 June

Filed under: Uncategorized by David Waller on June 9th, 2014

The advanced event at Umstead West this Sunday, June 15, has been approved. Start between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM; control pickup will start at 3:00 PM. Please pre-register online by Friday at noon.

Preliminary course and map notes: Three advanced courses will be offered: brown (3.7 km, 8 controls), green (5.2 km; 10 controls), and red (7.6 km; 13 controls). All competitors should note two novel features of these courses. First, there will be a new control type called a ‘hide’ which consists of a teepee of sticks and branches constructed by the course setter. These teepees may be between 0.4 and 2.0 m high, and the control flags will be placed inside them. They are represented on the map by a green circle, and their control description will be a circle (man-made object). Second, all deadfall and rootstocks, except those used as control locations will be left off of the map.

Directions: Take Weston Pkwy to Old Reedy Creek road and cross over the interstate. Start/Finish will be in the small patch of rough-open w/ scattered trees along the bike path at the west side of the Umstead map (approximate GPS coordinates = 35.847501,-78.777022).
